In this time of Holy Week, St. Anne's is wrapping up its season of Lent and our theme of Being the Change You Want to Be in the World. Thursday, 4/5 was our traditional Tenebrae service, a service of light and darkness when we remember the passion and death of Jesus. A number of candles are slowly extinguished as the story of Jesus' last days are remembered, culminating in total darkness when he dies. The hope of Easter and the resurrection is affirmed at the conclusion of the service when a single candle re-enters the room and the darkness is dispelled forever. It is a moving and memorable experience leading into Good Friday.
Next week, Thursday, April 12th will be our community Eucharist for Easter at 9:45 for the whole school We are pleased to welcome the Reverend Juan George, Associate Priest at Trinity Parish in Wilmington as our celebrant and homilist. The Reverend George oversees Latino ministries at Trinity and is a respected voice for minority communities in our state. Please join us Thursday to extend your Easter celebration!
The following week in chapel (April 19) we are pleased to welcome retired Rabbi David Kaplan to speak with us about Passover in the younger grades and also about Yom Hashoa, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with the older students. Both events are important not just for our Jewish brothers and sisters but serve as crucial reminders for all of us of the struggles of the oppressed and the inhumanity of humans against other humans that we must never let happen again.
Finally, let me draw your attention to our Spring Food Drive led by our fifth grade. Like our drive in the fall, this community effort is a great way to share our blessings with those less fortunate than we and to remember how interconnected is the human family.
May you and your family have a blessed Easter!
