Interscholastic Sports Update, Brian Scott, Athletic Director

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career.  I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.
I've failed over and over and over again in my life.  And that is why I succeed.

-- Michael Jordan

Baseball
The boys lost their first game of the season 7-1 to Tatnall.  Ethan Bloomfield had two hits, scored a run and pitched four strong innings.

Against Red Lion Christian Academy Ethan Bloomfield, Josh Heath and Carmi pitched well in a 5-0 defeat.  The boys are rapidly improving.  Their defense is solid; they are making contact at the plate, and getting on base.  This is a young, talented team, and their future will be filled with success.

Boys' Lacrosse
Following a 6-9 defeat at home against Sanford, Coach Taylor stated “We were down five players for the Sanford game, but the 12 that were there worked hard to stay in contention against a good team.”

At the Kent game, the boys went ahead 10-0 at half time, so it was a great opportunity for players to try out new positions in the second half.  Carmi Rurigi, new to lacrosse this year, got his first goal of the season and Charlie Liston, also new to lacrosse this year, posted St. Anne's Episcopal School's first ever lacrosse shutout!

Girls' Lacrosse
The girls lacrosse team defeated Caravel 7-6 in the first game in SAES history!  Good job girls.  They followed the victory with a tough loss to Kent 9-12, and then a strong 8-3 victory on Sanford's home field.

Coach Fritz and DeFino are pleased with the teams’ progress.  “The girls’ lacrosse team worked so hard these last few weeks!  They are getting stronger and smarter as lacrosse players by the day! They would like you to “Please come and support this new team at SAES! GO HERONS!”

Girls' Soccer
In their home opener last Friday the girls soccer team earned a hard fought 2-0 victory over a skilled team from The Independence School, with two goals by Lorin Donovan, one in each half.  The team showed that they are really coming together as a unit, seeing where to move and pass, as well as protecting their own goal from dangerous shooting opportunities.  The JV team followed with a 0-0 draw after a thirty minute game.

Their progress was again evident on the road Tuesday when they competed well against a talented team from MOT Charter.  In the last two minutes of a closely contested match, Alexa Rodriguez served a lovely corner kick to Sasha Feuerstein who tucked it in for a 1-0 victory. MOT then prevailed in the JV game by the same score. The team has two big home games next Monday and Thursday.
